About LRF

Legal Rights Forum (LRF) is a registered non-profit organization working since 2007 in Pakistan and is registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 in Karachi as of 2011-12. LRF envisions a democratic, just, peaceful and inclusive society wherein all citizens especially women, children, and marginalized communities may live with equal protection of law, self-respect and dignity. LRF strives to strengthen and advance the rule of law; improve access to justice; protect human rights; achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and reform criminal/civil justice system in Pakistan. LRF aims at: PROMOTION of Human Rights for all focusing on rights of Women, Children, Person with Disabilities, Minorities and Transgender; REFORMING the Criminal Justice System including Police, Prosecution, judiciary and Prison; REDRESSAL of anomalies in laws; and PROMOTE Democracy, Democratic Institutions, Good Governance, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Public Interest Litigation, Environmental Rights, Labor Rights, Child Rights, Youth Empowerment and Education for All.

The rationale behind the initiation of LRF was to invest in development sector which cannot resurrect the system unless the rule of law, sustainable development and good governance is strengthened and rights of people are protected. LRF not only struggles for rule of law and access to justice but is also works towards highlighting anomalies in the prevailing discriminatory legislative framework and strengthens joint actions. It consists of a pool of pro-bono lawyers, legal experts, development professionals, academia, human rights defenders, criminologists, communities’ paralegal experts, media and social activist who extend legal assistance, research, advocacy and capacity building services to the all stakeholders. Guided by the gender equity and human rights based principles and approaches, LRF is committed to create extensive awareness and commitment for a democratic, socially just, peaceful and inclusive society wherein all citizens especially children, women, persons with disabilities, minorities and transgender live with equal protection of law, self-respect and dignity.
