As the world marks International Women’s Day, Legal Rights Forum (LRF) in association with Women Development (WDD), Government of Sindh observed the Women’s Day in a local hotel in Karachi on March 09, 2021. One of the salient activities of the event was distribution of Leadership Awards to Women in Government. Yes this activity was designed to appreciate the services of Women in Government to pay them tribute outstanding contribution regarding Women Protection and Empowerment in Sindh.
A number of government officials of various government officials of various government department attended the event which was chaired by honourable Minister, Women Development Department Govt. of Sindh, and Syeda Shahla Raza.
Mr. Malik Tahir Iqbal, CEO of LRF welcomed Guest and the nominees for leadership Awards and said that International Women’s Day ids global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
Mr. Tahir Hasnain Shah, Senior Program manager LRF presented an introduction of LRF focusing on their Programme on Women Empowerment and Gender Equity. He highlighted LRF’s demand and supply side past and ongoing initiatives in favour of Women in Sindh.
Speaking at the occasion, Ms Fozia Masoom. Director Operation Sindh Child Protection Authority said that women deserve appreciations and support so that to play their best role in the society.
Mrs. Anjum Iqbal Secretary Women Development Department also addressed the event. She said that Women Development Department, under the learned leadership and supervision of its Minister, has achieved a number of milestones in favour of welfare of women and girls in the province.
Chief Guest of the event, Madam Syeda Shahla Raza, congratulated participants on the eve of international Women’s Day and appreciated LRF for organizing such an event every year that shows their commitment towards the women cause. She shared the background history of celebration on this Day and said that over the decades it has morphed from recognizing the achievements of women to becoming a rallying point to build support for women’s rights and participation, in the political and economic areas. She welcomed participations of Women in Government and praised their good role for women welfare.
At the end of the event, Honourable Minister-Women Development Syeda Shahla Raza and other dignitaries presented shields to a number of nominated women officers as a token of appreciation on their services in various government departments. The award winners pledge to increase their role in protecting and empowerment women and provide women a conducive environment in which they can express their full potential and serve the country and people of Pakistan at large.
